This “Melodic Tonguing” Routine is part of a longer routine, working on tonguing along the subdivision chain. This excerpt contains the first 3 subdivisions of the beat – quarter notes, eighth notes and eighth note triplets. The full routine will be part of a forthcoming Airflow Music book. The exercises in this routine should be single-tongued, with the sort of smooth and connected approach you would use to play a melody, either in a solo piece or an orchestral excerpt such as “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Mussorgsky. Play the higher keys softly and crescendo as you descend.
